On February the 20th, Helping hands and Trio Student Support Services banded together to put on a Black History program called Expressions of Black. This program, which celebrated black excellence, shinned light on many African Americans contributions throughout history that have been continuously overlooked. The event consisted of praise dances alongside songs from the Lifted Voices organization.
Junior Jamiee Henderson, who is a member of Lifted Voices spoke about her experience participating in the program. “It was an amazing experience,” Henderson said. “Being a part of something bigger than myself was life changing, I stepped way out of my comfort zone and I’m glad I did. I’d do it all over again.”
This program attracted a huge crowd of students and faculty from across all nationalities. The event also featured alternative dancing, spoken word, poetry, and skits.
