Lady Demon Volleyball faces a three-game home series Oct. 26, 28 and 31 against Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian and Central Arkansas, respectively. With an overall record of 12 wins and 13 losses, the Lady Demons seek to improve their conference record of seven wins and three losses leading into the end of conference play and postseason.

A four-game winning streak in early October has boosted morale for the team’s upcoming games. Though that streak ended with a loss in five sets against Houston Baptist Oct. 17, the Lady Demons bounced back with two wins during homecoming week against University of New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana University.

Head Coach Sean Kiracofe put it simply: “Winning is fun.”

Kiracofe said he is confident in his team and the season they have had despite their losses.

“I don’t think that a loss is going to have as big of an impact at the end of the season as it maybe would have at the beginning,” he said.

“Like I said going into this match, we want to spread out our offense and try to add some new things going into the end of the year,” Kiracofe said in an interview with NSU Athletics following the win against SLU.

Junior setter Kathryn Wristen said the Lady Demons have to continue to stay concentrated and cannot relax after their recent win streak.

“The girls have to stay focused and never forget what winning feels like, because every match is an important match,” she said.

In addition to their mental toughness, Wristen said they must continue to stay focused on their physical health.

“With it being so late in the season, the girls’ bodies are breaking down,” she said. “So we have to work on staying strong and healthy for the rest of the season.”

With six matches left before the Southland Conference Tournament, the Lady Demons will have to continue fighting the rest of the season to improve not only their season records, but their chances of entering the tournament. Currently ranked fifth in the conference, the Lady Demons must remain in the top eight to play in the tournament.

The first home game Oct. 26 against Sam Houston State will start at 6:30 p.m. in Prather Coliseum. A full schedule of the Lady Demon Volleyball season is available at nsudemons.com
